Seen and Unseen

Seen and Unseen
My sermon of 8/12/07 was based on Hebrews 11:1 -- Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The things "unseen" are the things that are beyond your imagining which are, of course, unknown. But the things hoped for are within your imagination. What do you hope for -- for yourself or All Saints'? What changes, new commitments, or graces are required to get there?

Peace,
Philip

All Saints offers many oppertunities. I sometimes trap myself into the busyness of things and miss the deeper oppertunity to grow closer to God. I pray for the grace to see past the busyness and enjoy the presence of God in what we do.

We as the male leaders of this parish need to step up and be role models for our youth. I was at the Youth Council meeting a couple weeks ago, and there were 25 jr. & sr. high students there, eager to have some guidance and more opportunitites to come together as a group in Christ. The problem seems to be that they are willing to continue the tradition of a strong youth program, but don't have enough guidance to become leaders themselves. I think we should try to continue "leading by example", and help them with the opportunities that Ashley promoted: helping set up the "old" youth room in the Parish Hall basement as a place not only for them to just gather and socialize, but to have a place they can call their own and do some reflection & meditation. I will be happy to find out more details about what kind of sweat equity they will need to get this project to fruition.

As far as the rest of us, we still have some uncharted waters to get through in the next few months. We all need to take it upon ourselves to "walk as Christ did" and continue to bring more men and families into our circles and ask for them to walk the journey with us, and show them how much this place means to us and our relationship with God.

My hope is that my faith will grow to the size of a mustard seed. I always feel that I need to be able to see where I am going, only in faith can we truly let go and know that God will be guiding us. It is this same faith that will lead us on and help us find our new rector.
