Luke 15:11-32 is the story of the Prodigal Son. In verse 17 its says, "He came to himself." What do you think this means? Can you name a time when you came to yourself? Who helped, what were the circumstances? Did the Father/Mother accept you?
Peace,
Philip

I remember in high school, the first time I came to the realization that I didn't like the man in the mirror. That has happened a few times, when I caught myself being fairly unlikeable and decided it was time for an attitude adjustment, sometimes on my own...other times with the help of good friends.

I think that this is an going process. I usually tried to use the quite time of Sunday to look at myself. This is not the time to be over critical, but a reflective time. It is a time to realize that I can't change the past, but I can influence the future.
We may not like what we see and avert our eyes. However, at some point in our lives we are forced to see just who we are, either by ourselves or those around us.
What defines our characters is whether we acknowledge who we have become and either accept it for better or worse or admit a change is in order.
I think I know what it meant to the Prodigal Son.
I have had such experiences throughout my life. I agree with anonymous that it is an ongoing process. My reconciliations have for the most part have only involved my creator and he always accepts me but I don't always get the fatted calf routine.
